LSUE Women Cruise In Texas Road Trip

DALLAS, Tx. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball continues to heat up as the temperatures drop on the Cajun Prairie as the Bengals took a pair of road games in Texas to start the week.  The two wins helped LSUE draw even on the season with a 9-9 record with conference play just on the horizon.
 
LSU Eunice controlled from start to finish on Tuesday, taking down North American University JV 64-34, followed by a 68-52 decision over Dallas College Richland.  Simone Clay (Bloomington, MN, Bloomington Jefferson HS) led the LSUE offensive charge, totaling 27 points in the two victories.
 
LSUE returns home for a three-game homestand before entering LCCAC competition, beginning Friday, January 17 with a 6:00PM tip-off against Western Gulf College.  The Bengals' LCCAC opener is Wednesday, January 29 at Southern-Shreveport.
 
Jan. 14 at North American University JV – W, 64-34
Alleyah Kennedy (Lafayette, LA, Southside HS) notched a double-double to help LSU Eunice dominate North American University JV 64-34 on Tuesday.  The Bengals used a dominant second half to blowout NAU, outscoring the Stallions 39-21 after intermission.
 
LSUE's defense played a major role in the win, forcing 26 turnovers and turning that into 28 points.  Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS), Izabella Henry (Hornbeck, LA, Anacoco HS) and Simone Clay each had three steals while Kennedy blocked three shots.  The Bengals held the Stallions to 13-for-50 (26%) shooting from the field.
 
Kennedy led LSUE in points and rebounds with 14 and 11, respectively.  Three other Bengals produced double digit point efforts – McDonald (12), Henry (10) and Clay (11).
 
The Bengals closed out the game in impressive fashion, winning the fourth quarter 22-7 while shooting 10-for-15 (66.7%) from the field.  Henry scored 7 of her 10 points in the frame.
 
Jan. 15 at Dallas College Richland – W, 68-52
LSU Eunice used a strong first half to help pave the way towards a 68-52 win over Dallas College Richland to sweep the Bengals' two-game stint in the Lone Star State.  LSUE outscored the Thunderducks 20-7 in the second quarter.
 
Mariah Heard (Bastrop, LA, Bastrop HS) and Simone Clay produced more half of the LSUE scoring output, combining for 34 points.  Heard was the key cog in the first half, scoring 14 of her team-high 18 points before intermission.  She gave way to Clay after halftime, who poured in 11 of her 16 points down the stretch.
 
Alleyah Kennedy capped off a strong two-game stint with another double digit point effort, tallying 10 points on the night.
