Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball raced out to a big lead early before holding off Jones College 65-59 on Thursday at the HPRE Center.  The Bengals (7-9) swept the home-and-home series with the Bobcats.
 
LSUE was clicking on all cylinders from the opening tip-off, racing out to a 20-5 first quarter lead.  
Mariah Heard (Bastrop, LA, Bastrop HS) led that early charge, scoring 10 of her team-high 17 points in the opening frame.  Jones, however, would reverse course in the second quarter, rallying back to make it a 30-26 advantage for LSU Eunice heading into intermission.
 
The Bengals would find themselves in a hole entering the final frame, 46-43, before coming back to life.  LSUE outscored Jones 22-13 in that pivotal fourth quarter, executing at the free throw line going 9-for-12 from the charity stripe in the final ten minutes.  
Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS) was a perfect 6-for-6 from free throw in the fourth, scoring all 10 of her points in the closeout quarter.
 
Nine different players scored in the victory as 
Markiyah Jefferson (Baton Rouge, LA, Liberty HS) added nine points to round out the high scorers for the Bengals.
 
The Bengals head to Texas for a two-day span playing Wiley University on Tuesday, January followed by a January 15 tilt against Dallas College Richland.  LSUE returns home next Friday, January 17 for a three-game homestanding starting with Western Gulf College.
