Box Score EUNICE, LA -- LSU Eunice freshman Riley James' career high game pushed the Lady Bengals to an 81-67 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast here Saturday.
Rylie James, who leads LSU Eunice (2-4) in scoring, hit four 2-point baskets, four 3-pointers and was 15-17 from the free-throw line. The former Basile standout is averaging 18.8 points a game and is ranked seventh in the country in free throw baskets.
The Lady Bengals cruised to an early 25-12 first-period lead and outshot Gulf Coast (3-2) 26-18 in the second period to go into the locker room with a 51-30 halftime lead.
The Lady Bulldogs made adjustments in the second half and dominated the third period closing the gap to six points by the start of the fourth. While Mississippi Gulf Coast's comeback attempt continued, the Lady Bengals slowly pulled away with the help of James,
Gabrielle Harrington and
Sydney Hayden.
James had 12 points in the final period, including seven from free throws. Hayden added seven points in the final period. Harrington had three points and finished the game with 10.
The Lady Bengals will travel to Decatur, Mississippi to East Central Mississippi tournament this week. They play East Central (3-1) and Meridian (1-2).
