Box Score EUNICE -- Third time's a charm for the LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team. For the third time in November, LSUE has faced off with Coastal Bend Community College (4-4). This time the Lady Bengals walked away with a 66-49 win here Saturday.
The Lady Bengals had fallen 66-73 on November 4 at the San Jac Classic and 62-76 on November 8. This time it was all about defense and rebounds.
The Lady Bengals record 73 rebounds in the game, 40 defensive and 33 offensive.
Rylie James (Basile HS) came down with the most. She had eight defensive and four offensive rebounds.
Jaleya Gold (Bolton HS) finished with ten rebounds, and Brianna Dixon had six. LSU Eunice is 42nd in the country in rebounds, averaging 42.5 a game.
LSUE took an early lead in the game, but the Lady Cougars would never go away. Twice in the first period, Coastal Bend took the lead, only to give it back to LSUE. A three-point basket by
Destini Hall (Clear Creek HS) late in the first period took the lead away from Coast Bend for good. LSUE would never trail again.
The Lady Bengals played strong defense throughout the game. Forcing 19 turnovers, and recording eight steals and three blocked shots. LSUE held the Lady Cougars to 49 points. Coastal had been averaging 70 points a game.
Three Lady Bengals finished the night in double-digits James and
Sydney Hayden (Holden HS) each had 16 points, and Gold scored 10. Hayden hit 71 percent of her two-point shots and 61 percent of her three-point baskets.
LSUE is now 3-6 on the season and will travel to Summit, Miss., to take on undefeated Southwest Mississippi Community College later this week.
