Box Score SUMMIT, MS -- The undefeated Lady Bears of Southwest Mississippi were too much for the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals here Tuesday. LSUE fell to 3-7 on the season after losing to Southwest Mississippi 58-70.
The Lady Bengals lead from the opening seconds of the game but quickly saw that lead disappear as Mississippi took control of the first period. LSUE could only score six points in the first eight minutes.
The Lady Bengals managed to close the gap to three points early in the second period, but the Lady Bears started pulling away and had, at times, opened up a nine-point lead. LSUE put together a short scoring run with the clock winding down, allowing the Lady Bears only a six-point advantage at halftime.
The Lady Bears outscored the LSUE in the second half, opening up a double-digit lead and several ties in the fourth period had a lead of 16 points. Five SW Mississippi players finished the nights with double digits led by freshman Rachel Thompson who had 15 points.
Jaleya Gold (Bolton HS) led the scoring for the Lady Bengals with 15 points and
Rylie James (Basile HS), who left the game briefly with an injury, scored 12 points.
Destini Hall (Clear Creek HS) finished with seven points.
The Lady Bengals will host Angelina College on December 10. LSUE fell to Angelina 49-93 earlier this season. The Lady Roadrunners are currently 6-2.
