Box Score BATON ROUGE -- Despite Becca Brooks' best showing of the year, the Lady Bengals fell to Baton Rouge Community College here Saturday in the opening game of Miss-Lou Conference play. LSUE lost 82-50.
Brooks (Sulphur HS), who continues to shatter the school's three-point shooting record, scored 21 points tonight from seven three-point baskets. She currently holds the record for most career three-pointers (142) and is second on the most three-pointers in a game list with eight scored last season against Bossier Parish and Jones County. Her seven baskets tonight puts her tied for third with former Bengal standout Renotta Edwards. Edwards held the most career three-pointers (126) until Brooks took the lead earlier this season. Amanda Romero holds the record for most three-pointers in a game with nine set back in 2005.
Though the Lady Bengals finished strong, adding 15 points in the final quarter, it wasn't enough to turn things around. Baton Rouge improved to 4-6 on the season, while LSUE fell to 7-13. More importantly, Baton Rouge now has a one game advantage in conference play along with Southern-Shreveport. Shreveport (6-7) defeated Delgado (2-13) 68-37 in Shreveport earlier today.
In other scoring today,
Rylie James (Basile HS) went into double digits, scoring 15 points for the Lady Bengals, with help from
Sydney Hayden (Holden HS) (6 points),
Gabrielle Harrington (Erath HS) (6 points, 3 rebounds), and
Jaleya Gold (Bolton HS) (2 points, 8 rebounds).
LSUE continues conference player, later this week. The girls host Southern-Shreveport Wednesday night.
