Game 7 Preview - Mississippi Gulf Coast

GAME 7 PREVIEW – MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – NOVEMBER 20, 2017
 
EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice continues a season's best six game home stand with the first of three games during Thanksgiving week this Tuesday against Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Tip-off from the HPRE Center is scheduled for 6:00PM.
 
The game can be streamed on-line through Bengals All-Access.
 
The Bengals (4-2) come off 74-65 victory over Pearl River on Thursday. Arianna Dargin produced her first career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.  Gabrielle Harrington (14) and Rylie James (10) were also in double figures for the Bengals.  LSUE dominated the glass over the Bobcats, owning a 50-28 advantage including 15 offensive boards.
 
Dargin continues to provide a spark off the bench.   The Iowa High product currently leads the team with 15.8 points per game.  Dargin is 7-of-13 in three-point field goals which currently ranked 18th nationally in percentage (53.8). 
 
Mississippi Gulf Coast (3-1) comes off a home-road sweep of Bishop State.  Eanna Sims lead the Bulldogs with 13 points in a 56-44 road win on December 16.  Freshman Azaria Howard leads the team with 11.3 points per game.  Hope Adams is in her first full year as head coach of Mississippi Gulf Coast.

STORY LINES
  • LSU Eunice continues a season long six game homestand.  The Bengals play a program's best 18 home games this season.
  • This is the 31st all-time meeting between LSU Eunice and Mississippi Gulf Coast.  The Bengals own a 9-7 advantage at home but trail the all-time series 11-19.
  • Mississippi Gulf Coast is one of two Mississippi Region 23 opponents the Bengals will play this season.  LSUE beat Pearl River last Thursday.  The Bengals will face both teams on the road later this season.
  • Rylie James recently surpassed Amanda Romero and Candace Lacombe for 5th all-time in LSUE scoring.  The sophomore's 634 points is 34 points shy of 4th place Casey Broussard.
 
RYLIE WATCH: Sophomore Rylie James will have a few LSU Eunice records in the crosshairs for the 2017-2018 season.  James scored 545 points in her freshman campaign and is now 5th All-Time with 634 points.  She eclipsed Amanda Romero and Candace Lacombe with 16 points in a Nov. 14 loss at San Jacinto-North.

RYLIE WATCH, PART 2: The Basile native will also have the free throw record in sight this season.  James sunk 121 from the charity stripe last year, the 5th most in program history.  James is only 49 free throws away from tying record holder Jennifer Hicks (188).  Her 15 free throws against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Nov. 19, 2016 is the third most in a single game in program history.

RUNAWAY REDO: It's the second straight season LSU Eunice has scored back-to-back 20-plus point wins.  Last year, the Bengals notched blowout wins of Southern-Shreveport (24) and Delgado (25) on Feb. 1 and Feb. 4, 2017.
 
BOARD GAMES: The Bengals are cleaning up on the glass this season, ranking 26th nationally in total rebounds per game (47.2).  LSUE's 20.2 offensive rebounds per game is ranked 11th in NJCAA. 

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: Sophomores Jaleya Gold and Gabby Harrington were voted team captains for the 2017-2018 season.  The duo both started last year for the Bengals and are two of five sophomores on this year's team.
 
SPREAD THE LOVE: All 11 Bengals to dress out during opening weekend scored at least a point; five were in double figures (Dargin, Saucier, James, Gold and Landry).  Seven Bengals have notched double digit point totals in games this season.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: This will be the 31st all-time meeting against Mississippi Gulf Coast.  The Bengals hold a 9-7 edge against Bulldogs in Eunice while Mississippi Gulf Coast leads 12-2 in Perkinston, Ms.  The two teams will meet again on January 8.
 
LOCAL PRODUCE: The Bengals feature a majority of student-athletes that hail from the around the Eunice area.  Gabrielle Harrington (Erath), Breanna Doucet (Sam Houston), Sissy Saucier (South Beauregard), Arianna Dargin (Iowa), Miya McKinney (Ville Platte), Sarah Guidry (Lake Arthur), Tachiana Ledet (Northside), Bethany Broussard (Iowa), Rylie James (Basile) and Whitney Landry (Iota) all played high school basketball within 50 miles of LSU Eunice.
 
WINNING PEDIGREE: The ten incoming freshman had a knack for winning at the high school level.  In their junior and senior high school seasons, the group won a state title, made three championship game appearances and five semifinals.
