Games 8-9 Preview - Southwestern Christian

EUNICE, La. – The home heavy month of November comes to an end this weekend as LSU Eunice welcomes Southwestern Christian for a pair of games inside the HPRE Center.  The Bengals have played eight of their first nine games inside their friendly confines this month.

Tip-off for both Friday and Saturday's games is scheduled for 6:00PM.

The Bengals (5-2) got a lift from their bench in Tuesday's 78-72 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast.  The reserves scored 43 points including a team-high 16 from super sub Arianna Dargin.  Whitney Landry was one of three Bengals in double figures, chipping in 12 points.

LSUE used a 32 point 2nd quarter and 16-for-21 performance at the free throw line to secure the team's 5th home win of the season.  The Bengals are 5-1 this month inside the HPRE Center.

Southwestern Christian comes to town fresh off an 81-64 victory over Mountain View on Tuesday.  The Eagles are 3-7 on the season and are led by the trio of Mikayla Robersion, Audrianna Brown and Courtnee Johnson.  The three guards combine for nearly 43 points per game.  Robersion leads the team with 15.1 points per night.

This will be the first meeting between LSU Eunice and Southwestern Christian.  The Bengals will play three opponents for the first time ever this season, including Arkansas State-Mid-South and Lone Star College-Cy-Fair.

  • This is the first meeting between the two schools.  Southwestern Christian is one of three teams that the Bengals face for the first time this season.
  • Rylie James recently surpassed Amanda Romero and Candace Lacombe for 5th all-time in LSUE scoring.  The sophomore's 646 points is 22 points shy of 4th place Casey Broussard.
  • The Bengals are dominating on the glass this season.  LSUE ranks 14th nationally in offensive rebounds per game, grabbing 20.2 a night.  The Bengals are also tabbed 25th in total rebounds per game, snagging 47.2 per game.

RYLIE WATCH: Sophomore Rylie James will have a few LSU Eunice records in the crosshairs for the 2017-2018 season.  James scored 545 points in her freshman campaign and is now 5th All-Time with 646 points.  She eclipsed Amanda Romero and Candace Lacombe with 16 points in a Nov. 14 loss at San Jacinto-North.

RYLIE WATCH, PART 2: The Basile native will also have the free throw record in sight this season.  James sunk 121 from the charity stripe last year, the 5th most in program history.  James is only 47 free throws away from tying record holder Jennifer Hicks (188).  Her 15 free throws against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Nov. 19, 2016 is the third most in a single game in program history.
