Third Quarter Explosion Helps LSUE Rally At Miss. Gulf Coast

Box Score

PERKINSTON, Ms. – It was a tale of two halves for LSU Eunice as the Bengals washed away a double digit halftime deficit to take down Mississippi Gulf Coast, 65-52.  The win improves the Bengals' win streak to now 10 consecutive games.

LSU Eunice (13-2) suffered through a sluggish first half that saw the Bengals only score seven points in the second quarter and trail 31-20 at the break.  The Bulldogs used a critical 12-2 run in the second to push out to double digit lead.

After half, the LSUE responded with a 19-4 run out of intermission keyed by De'Asia Dixon (Huntington HS).  The freshman poured in all eight of her points in that third quarter.  The Bengals shut down Mississippi Gulf Coast after half, outscoring the Bulldogs 28-6 in the third to take a 48-37 lead into the final quarter.  Rylie James (Basile HS) chipped in seven of her game-high 15 points in the critical quarter.

Sissy Saucier (South Beauregard HS) joined James as the only LSUE scorers in double figures with 12 points.

It was also announced this evening that Saturday's postponed game with Pearl River has a makeup date of February 16.  The Bengals will make the trek back to Mississippi for the 5:30PM schedule tip-off.

LSU Eunice will return home for a pair of games against Lone Star College-Cy-Fair January 19-20.  The series kicks off a four game mini-homestand.  Fans can also find the latest Bengals information on social media via Twitter (@LSUEBengalsWBB), Facebook (@LSUEuniceBasketball) and Instagram (@LSUEBengals).
