Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – Igor Castillo-Veliz's long distance rocket was all LSU Eunice needed as the Bengals defeated Blinn College 1-0 in a Wednesday night showdown at Moore Park. The win helped LSUE (6-2-2) close out the home portion of the regular season with a 5-1 record.
The game also marked LSU Eunice's first shutout victory of the regular season.
"Our backline and Sean (Jeanfreau) have worked incredibly hard the last few weeks and it's great to see it pay off with a shutout," LSU Eunice men's soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said. "We are going to need them to step up in the postseason and this performance could not have come at a better time."
After not seeing a shot on goal in the first half,
Sean Jeanfreau (Mandeville, LA, Mandeville HS) scooped up six saves in the second half including two terrific stops on dangerous crosses into the box.
While the defense shined against the Buccaneers, LSUE saw several chances on offense go by the wayside. The Bengals fired 17 shots on the game with only 9 going on frame.
The lone goal of the game came in the 78th minute off the right foot of
Igor Castillo-Veliz (Baton Rouge, LA, Woodlawn HS). After taking a pass from
Angelo Fabricio (Jundiai, Brazil, St. Amant HS (LA)), Castillo evaded a Blinn defender before sending a 35-yard rocket to the top right corner of the goal. It was first goal of the season.
LSU Eunice now enters the final week of the regular season with a pair of road games. The Bengals will play Coastal Bend College on Saturday in a neutral site game at Angelina College. LSUE closes out the regular season next Thursday, October 18 with a match against Eastern Oklahoma State that will be played in Shreveport at Cargill Park.
