EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer continues to heat up down the stretch run of the regular season, cruising past Coastal Bend 4-0 on Tuesday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The win gives the Bengals (6-4-2 overall, 5-3-2 conference) back-to-back high scoring shutouts at home.
The fireworks would start early and often, with LSU Eunice netting its first goal just six minutes into the game. After
Aurélien Petorin (Niort, France, Lycée de la Venise Verte) won a contested ball near midfield, he connected with
Alfie Mackay Webb (Northwich, England, Knutsford Academy) as he sprinted past three Coastal Bend defenders. Webb played the ball to
Caden Hickox (Colorado Springs, CO, Village HS) inside the box who would one-touch the ball to the far post.
Petorin put himself in the scoring column in the 21st minute, again, using defense to turn it into offense. The freshman midfield tackled the ball away from the Cougars 25 yards from the goal and quickly lofted a high curling ball into the near side top corner.
A few minutes later, the Bengals upped their advantage to 3-0 just a few minutes later as
Ange Emmanuelie Ibo (Montreal, Quebec, Canada, École Secondaire Dorval-Jean XXIII/) headed home a beautiful cross from
Oliver Farrell (Manchester, England, Pendleton Sixth Form College). The scoring would conclude with Farrell on the receiving end of a header goal, jumping over a defender after
Pierre Lefeuvre (Angers, France, Lycée Polyvalent Chevrollier) delivered a pinpoint cross from the opposite sideline.
Coastal Bend received a red card in the final moments of the first half after an aggressive sliding tackle, putting the Cougars a man down for the second half. LSU Eunice would have a few offensive moments after intermission but would not be able to capitalize on the advantage.
Defensively, the Bengals held tough only allowing three shots on goal – all saves for
Josh Barrow (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS).
LSU Eunice continues its homestand with a Friday doubleheader against Blinn College on the Cajun Prairie. The women's team gets the action started at 5:00PM, followed by the men at approximately 7:30PM.
