EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer returned home for the first time in nearly a month, taking down Texas Southmost 8-0 on Friday. LSUE (5-4-2 overall, 4-3-2 conference) swept the season series with the Scorpions by an impressive 12-0 margin.
The Bengals would get in the scoring column 18 minutes into the game after
Caden Hickox (Colorado Springs, CO, Village HS) converted a penalty kick following a foul against
Alfie Mackay Webb (Northwich, England, Knutsford Academy) in the box. Webb would score in the 25th minute, finishing with his right foot in the box after a long run by
Aurélien Petorin (Niort, France, Lycée de la Venise Verte) down the left channel.
LSUE would take that 2-0 lead into intermission before coming alive for six goals after the break. Hickox again kick started the offense, combining with Webb for an easy finish inside the 18-yard box in the 56th minute. The Bengals netted five goals in the final 14 minutes of action.
Ange Emmanuelie Ibo (Montreal, Quebec, Canada, École Secondaire Dorval-Jean XXIII/) was the first to score in that lightning round of goals, benefitted by a pretty combination by
Pierre Lefeuvre (Angers, France, Lycée Polyvalent Chevrollier) and
Mounir Salhi (Mandeville, LA, Fontainebleau HS) to get the ball in the attacking end. Lefeuvre was next in the scoring ledger just one minute later, racing to meet a long inlet pass by Salhi and beating two defenders.
Ibo secured the brace in the 79th minute, using Salhi's third assist of the game on a give-and-go near midfield and sprinting past the Scorpions backline. Salhi capped a solid day on the field with an 87th minute goal, corralling a pop-up pass into the box by Petorin – one of his two assists in the afternoon.
Garrett Meaux (New Iberia, LA, New Iberia Senior HS) sent the team into celebration, scoring his first career goal with just 20 seconds left. The sophomore stole a poor clearance from Texas Southmost finishing near side in a one-v-one opportunity against the TSC goalkeeper.
It was a quiet day for LSUE goalkeeper
Josh Barrow (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS), who did not face a dangerous shot on goal.
LSU Eunice continues its regular season ending four-game homestand with a Tuesday, October 13 matchup against Coastal Bend.
