Box Score DALLAS, Texas – LSU Eunice overcame a halftime deficit with a four goal run to secure a 5-3 win over No. 18 Western Texas. The Tuesday night game played in Dallas was the Bengals' first ever win over a NJCAA ranked team.
The win secured a trip for LSUE (5-2-2) to the NJCAA postseason and the Region 23 Tournament later this month.
"I couldn't be happier with our effort and the result," LSU Eunice men's soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said. "The team has really come together over the last few days and they can see what they are capable of with a win over a very talented Western Texas team."
The Westerners took a 2-1 lead into halftime after having goals sandwiched between a 23rd minute strike from Jose Ventura.
The Bengals roared out of the locker rooms with four unanswered goals. Noah Wagner was first to strike in the 57th minute after heading in a throw-in by Eli Weathers to tie the game at 2-2. Adrian Franco's 61st minute connection thanks to a faulty clearance by WTC pushed the Bengals ahead for good.
Angelo Fabricio's penalty kick and Saad Garadi's capper in the 79th minute helped the Bengals secure the victory. Western Texas would score a goal in the 86th minute to trim the LSUE advantage.
LSU Eunice will return home next Wednesday, October 10 for a doubleheader against Blinn College. The 3:00PM kick-off from Moore Park in Lafayette will mark the final home game of the regular season for the Bengals' men's team.
