Box Score ELLISVILLE, Ms. – A second half about face helped LSU Eunice climb out of a halftime hole and defeat Southwest Mississippi 3-2 in the 2018 Region 23 tournament semifinals. The win helped the Bengals (8-2-2) clinch a berth in next week's NJCAA South District tournament and a Region 23 Championship game against Jones College tomorrow at 3:00PM.
The game was played at Jones College, the host of the Region 23 tournament after taking last week' MACJC championship.
LSU Eunice used a pair of second half goals to erase a 2-1 halftime deficit and defeat the Bears.
Adrian Franco (Houston, TX, Andy Dekaney HS (TX)) helped tie the game with a 55th minute header, evading three defenders to connect on a
Timon Zech (Starnberg, Germany) cross into the box.
Axell Fuentes (Bridge City, LA, L.W. Higgins HS (LA)) would score the game winner with a low screamer in the 64th minute.
"The team really fought and clawed for today's result against a quality side like Southwest," LSU Eunice men's soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said. "I was impressed at how we were able to wipe the slate clean at half and play our type of game."
Southwest Mississippi struck first early scoring on a 9th minute goal by Felipe Madero. The Bengals would respond with short passes in the box ended with Angelo Fabricio netting the tying goal four minutes later.
The Bears would score their final goal of the day when Patrick Larsen connected on a 44th goal just before half.
Sean Jeanfreau (Mandeville, LA, Mandeville HS) would pitch a second half shutout, scooping up three saves. LSUE would outshoot Southwest on the day 20-10 including a 12-5 margin on shots on goal.
