MARSHALL, TX – LSU Eunice used two
Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) goals separated by less than ten minutes to close out the preseason slate with a 2-1 road win over East Texas Baptist University. The Bengals will open the regular season this Friday as they welcome Delta State for a 2:00PM doubleheader with the women's team.
The two sides were deadlocked after one half but things opened up shortly after intermission. Wagner put LSUE on the board first with a 55th minute goal off an assist from
Hector Rodriguez (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS). The freshman raced past two defenders to break the ice.
ETBU responded a few minutes later as Travis Atkinson headed one past Sean Jeanfreau off a Levi Rogers corner kick in the 62nd minute.
Jeanfreau (Mandeville, LA, Mandeville HS) did tally four saves on the night.
The Bengals answered right back just two minutes later. LSUE built from the backline off of a goal kick and used a hard press by East Texas Baptist to its advantage.
Axell Fuentes (Honduras, L.W. Higgins HS (LA)) sent a ball through to Noah Wagner who raced past a lone defender to bury the game winner.
Wagner led all LSUE goal scorers this preseason with three goals.
