LSUE Rallies Late To Secure Comeback Win

Box Score

LAFAYETTE, La. – LSU Eunice completed a wild comeback with three goals in the final 20 minutes to help secure a 4-2 win over Andrew College.  The Bengals (2-0-0) netted its last two goals in the final two minutes of game time.

LSUE fell behind 2-1 early in the second half after CJ Copeland seized on a turnover to score the go-ahead goal for the Tigers.

"Our guys never gave up and stayed the course despite giving up the lead after half," LSU Eunice head coach Josh McReynolds said.  "It's good to see a complete team effort was rewarded with the rally and the getting the result."

The come from behind onslaught began in the 70th minute as Hector Rodriguez (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) banged home a cross from point blank range after a nice feed by Timon Zech (Starnberg, Germany)

"You could sense the team tensed up just a little after giving up the (second half) goal," McReynolds added.  "Hector's goal really allowed them to free up and you saw some really good chemistry in the back end of the game."

Zech followed up with a highlight reel game winner in the 88th minute. The German sent a short played corner kick to the back post with a curving volley that tucked in for his first goal of the season.  The go-ahead goal was part of a furious offensive attack by the Bengals, outshooting Andrew College 15-3 in the second half and owning a 14-4 margin on shots on goal.

Adrian Franco (Houston, TX, Andy Dekaney HS (TX)) delivered the insurance a minute later as the freshman raced past the Andrew College defense off the through ball by Noah Wagner.  Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) scored the first goal of the game for LSUE, forcing an error by the Tiger backline and beating the goalkeeper in the 10th minute.

After Andrew College tied up the game in the 28th minute, LSU Eunice had several scoring chances but were denied by Tiger goalkeeper Alex Huddleston.  The sophomore tallied an impressive ten saves in the losing effort.

LSU Eunice will continue its homestand with a Saturday doubleheader against Jacksonville College.  The women get things started with a 1:00PM start time from Moore Park in Lafayette.  The men follow with a 4:00PM contest.
