Box Score DALLAS, Tx. – LSU Eunice raced out to 3-1 halftime lead before defensive miscues resulted in a 4-4 double overtime draw with Mountain View College. The Bengals (3-1-1) played in their second consecutive overtime game.
"This is not the result we hope for but I believe there are several important teaching point to take away from the game," LSU Eunice men's soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said. "We relied a lot more on our depth to great success which will help down the road while we also learned we need to clean up some issues on the defensive end."
LSUE rolled out a tinkered line-up and saw instant offense with
Jose Ventura-Castro (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) (7th minute) and
Axell Fuentes (Bridge City, LA, L.W. Higgins HS (LA)) (8th minute) both scoring and helping each other with assists to roar out to a 2-0 lead. Fuentes added another tally in the 22nd minute off of a
Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) feed to push the Bengals advantage to 3-2 going into the halftime break.
Felipe Ramos and Carlos Martinez added Mountain View's goals in the 18th and 26th minute of the first half, respectively.
Mountain View would be the first to strike out of the locker rooms as Erick Delgado tied the game 3-3 in the 60th minute. LSUE would pounce on a Lion mistake by going ahead a minute later thanks to an own goal.
Jonathan Macias would play hero for Mountain view with an 83rd minute unassisted goal to force overtime.
LSUE would have several opportunities in the two separate rounds of overtime, outshooting Mountain View 10-1 in the two periods including getting three on frame.
Christian Carrillo (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) would snatch four saves in his LSUE debut in net while giving up the four Mountain View goals.
The Bengals head back out to the Lone Star State on Tuesday to face Northeast Texas CC. The nightcap of the doubleheader to slated for a 4:00PM start time.
