Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice's defense turned in another stellar performance as the No. 9 Bengals scored a 3-0 victory over Cisco College on Wednesday at the Bengals Soccer Complex. LSUE (12-1-1) notched its third straight shutout and ninth of the season.
"Defense has been the backbone of our program and tonight was not any different," LSU Eunice women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "It's nice to know we can always depend on the defensive half of the field and take off some of the pressure on the attacking end."
The defensive backline of
Avery Caraway (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS),
Gabrielle Felix (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS),
Tilly Deacon (London, England, Barking Abbey School) and
Brianna Roberts (Conroe, TX, Oak Ridge HS) helped hold Cisco College to not a single shot on goal in the game. The Wranglers did have two shots total including one scoring opportunity that was sent wide.
LSU Eunice put in its first goal of the game in the 13th minute as
Jazmin Torres (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) scored on a connection with
Abbie Watson (Durham, England, Durham-Johnston Comprehensive School) off a bad Cisco defensive clearance. Torres worked through two Wrangler defenders to tally her fifth goal of the season.
Marcela Ramirez (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS) would double up the Bengals' advantage as the free kick specialist would convert again on a 30-yard attempt with a high-arching volley over the goalkeeper's head on the back post. LSUE would take that 2-0 lead into halftime.
Brianna Roberts would give LSUE its final 3-0 margin in the 51st margin as Watson played a through ball to a streak Roberts who used a chip over the keeper for her second goal of the season.
LSUE will close out the home portion of the regular season on Saturday as the Bengals welcome Hill College to town for an afternoon doubleheader. The women's game will start at 1:00PM and feature two teams currently ranked in the Top 10 of the NJCAA Division I Soccer polls.
Both games will be streamed live on Bengals All-Access.
