Box Score PERKINSTON, Ms. – The LSU Eunice women's soccer team was in complete control from opening whistle in a 7-0 road win at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday at Bary Thrash Field. The Bengals (2-0) were paced by a hat trick from freshman midfielder
Marcela Ramirez (Conroe, TX, Conroe HS), all coming in the first eleven minutes.
"We stressed to the girls to set the tone of the game early and they did just that," LSUE women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "What Marcela was able to do is really special and started off a technically sound night for us."
Ramirez started the scoring in emphatic fashion, netting an "Olimpico" directly off her corner kick attempt in the 7th minute. The freshman midfielder would add to her tally just two minutes later by connecting on a penalty kick.
The hat trick was complete in only the 11th minute, combining with fellow freshman
Samaris Alvarado (Houston, TX, Klein Forest HS).
Chloe Dean (Doncaster, England) would keep the Bengals rolling, scoring on a 35-yard volley to push LSUE ahead 4-0.
Avery Caraway (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) would tally the final goal of the half off a
Katy Watt (Edinburgh, Scotland, Firrhill HS) assist.
The Bengals offensive onslaught would cool down before picking up in the final third of the game, beginning with
Maddie Sylvester's (Opelousas, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) first career goal in the 67th minute.
Brianna Roberts (Conroe, TX, Oak Ridge HS) would close out the scoring by taking a pass across the box to net a 74th minute tally.
Destyn Miguez (Nederland, TX, Nederland HS) recorded assists on both goals.
Mariah Scott (San Antonio, TX, Legacy of Educational Excellence HS) used a sterling defensive effort to record the shutout despite not facing a shot on goal.
LSUE returns home Wednesday, August 28 to face another Region 23 opponent, Pearl River, at home. The Bengals will kick off at 4:30PM followed by the official ribbon cutting of the Bengal Soccer Complex.
