12th Ranked Bengals Draw Blinn To Open Postseason

EUNICE, La. – The LSU Eunice Men's Soccer team will start its quest for another National Tournament appearance this Friday as the Bengals host Blinn College in the opening round of the Region 14 Tournament.  The game from the Bengal Soccer Complex is scheduled to begin at 6:00PM.

LSU Eunice is participating in the Region 14 Tournament as an auxiliary member in postseason play due to LSUE being the lone Region 23 member in Division I.  The winner of the Region 14 Tournament will also be declared the Gulf South District Champion and receive an automatic berth into the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on November 15-20 on the campus of Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.

The Bengals will play one of three first round games against Blinn College on Friday, October 29.  The highest seed will host in each round of the tournament with LSUE as the three seed in the seven-team tournament.

The other first round matchups pit Angelina College and Northeast Texas CC as well as Jacksonville College and Coastal Bend College.

LSUE heads into the postseason ranked 12th in the most recent NJCAA Division I polls with a record of 6-3-2.  The Bengals have been led by a stellar defense, ranking 21st nationally in shutouts (5) and 13th in goals against average (0.79).  The top goal scorer for the Bengals is Jose Escobar (Fort Pierce, FL, Fort Pierce Central HS) with six goals.

LSU Eunice advanced to the Region 14 Championship game a year ago, before falling to Tyler JC.  The Bengals have played in the District Championship game in each of the last three years.

The Bengals were able to qualify for the National Tournament last season as an at-large.
