Box Score EUNICE, La. – No. 12 LSU Eunice Men's Soccer advanced in the Region 14/Gulf South District Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Blinn College on Friday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The Bengals (7-3-2) have now advanced at least one round in every postseason in school history.
LSUE and Blinn would fight to a scoreless gridlock in the first half with the Bengals outshooting the Buccaneers 7-3. The Bengals had a few dangerous opportunities in the box that would come up empty while they also avoided disaster. On a corner kick, Blinn would end up getting an empty net on a loose ball before
Jose Escobar (Fort Pierce, FL, Fort Pierce Central HS) would draw a foul to help thwart the threat.
The Bengals would continue to have success after half, tallying ten more shots following intermission. LSUE would finally get on the board in the 68th minute.
Emilio Segovia Gaytan (Mexico City, Mexico, Colegio Olinca) was kicked down in the box, drawing a penalty kick.
Elie Bokota (Atlanta, GA, Clarkston HS) would swiftly bury the shot in the right-side corner for the go-ahead goal.
That set up a wild final minute. Blinn would have a corner kick with just more than a minute left, bringing the goalkeeper to the LSUE end. The ball would pop loose towards midfield with Segovia pushing the Bengals up 2-0 with a midfield shot that would trickle in the empty net.
Blinn would make it interesting, scoring a goal with 18 seconds left before LSUE secured victory.
LSUE dominate the stat sheet, possessing the ball 65 percent of the game while outshooting Blinn 17-7.
Diego Montoya Casillas (Cuernavaca, Mexico, Instituto Oriente de Puebla) and the Bengal backline would have another solid night, allowing just three shots on target.
The Bengals now await the result of tomorrow's first round matchup between Angelina and Northeast Texas CC. With an Angelina win, LSUE will travel to face off with the Roadrunners. A Northeast Texas win will allow the Bengals to return home to take on Coastal Bend College.
