Bengals Bow Out Of Nationals

TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer saw it season come to an end on Tuesday after a 3-0 setback against Arizona Western to be eliminated from the NJCAA National Tournament.  The Bengals (8-6-2) finished Pool B play 0-2.

"I am really proud of our guys' fight the last few weeks and earning this trip back to the National Tournament," LSU Eunice Men's Soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said.  "Our team has fought through a lot of injuries and adversity and should hold their heads high knowing poured everything they could into our team."

The trip to Tyler marked the second straight trip to the National Tournament for the Bengals, one of eight teams to earn a berth back in Nationals from last year.

As was the case on Monday, LSU Eunice battle to a scoreless first half, anchoring by another highlight reel performance from Diego Montoya Casillas (Cuernavaca, Mexico, Instituto Oriente de Puebla) in net.  The sophomore made a few goal-saving stops to keep the Bengals in striking distance at intermission.

The Bengals' defensive luck would run out early in the second half.  Arizona Western would connect on a set piece with a service going back side to a wide-open Matador for the headed goal in the 46th minute.

A formation change to a more aggressive offensive approach would backfire as the top goal scoring team in the nation added two more midway through the half just a minute apart.

Montoya would finish with six saves as the Matadors fired off 17 shots on the game.  Arizona Western and Cowley will meet on Wednesday with the winner advancing to the knock-out stage on Friday.
