EUNICE, La. – For a second straight season, LSU Eunice Men's Soccer will conclude their campaign at the National Tournament. The Bengals were one of four at-large teams selected to compete in the 2021 NJCAA Division I National Tournament on November 15-20 at Tyler Junior College.
LSU Eunice (8-4-2) was selected as the 11-seed in the 12-team tournament. The Bengals draw No. 2 Cowley (17-0) and No. 7 Arizona Western (18-1) in Pool B of first round action. After round robin play, the top team in each pool will advance to a single-elimination tournament with the National Championship set for Saturday, November 20.
The Bengals square off with Cowley on Monday at 12:30PM, followed by a Tuesday date with Arizona Western at the same time. Both games can be seen online on the NJCAA Network.
"Our team has fought very hard over these last few months with this goal in mind and it's always rewarding for you to accomplish one of your major team goals," LSU Eunice Men's Soccer head coach Josh McReynolds said. "We are starting to have inspired, team play on the pitch and I'm excited to watch our team tackle a challenging road ahead."
LSUE comes off a Gulf South District Championship game appearance, falling to Tyler JC 1-0.
Jose Escobar (Fort Pierce, FL, Fort Pierce Central HS) leads the Bengals offense in goals (8), assists (3) and points (19).
Cowley heads into Nationals with a high-octane offense. The Tigers are tops in shots on goal (221) nationally and 12th in goals scored (59). Caique Trivelato is the main target for the Cowley attack, ranking fourth in the country in goals with 20.
Arizona Western also has one of the most potent attacks in the nation. The Matadors are tops in the county goals scored with 91, averaging an impressive 4.7 goals per game. AWC also has produced 11 shutouts on the campaign, ranking fourth nationally in that category. The attacking duo of Michele Signorelli (16 goals) and Nozumu Kamei (12 goals) pace the Arizona Western offense.
LSU Eunice joins Iowa Western, Arizona Western and Coffeyville as the four at-large teams joining the eight district champions. Defending Champion Salt Lake is the overall number one seed.
The Bengals join Salt Lake, Laramie County, Iowa Western, Iowa Lakes, Tyler JC, Daytona College and Western Texas as teams to make return trips to Nationals from last season.
