BROUSSARD, La. – For a third straight year, LSU Eunice men's soccer finds itself one step away from the National Tournament.  The Bengals clinched a berth in the Gulf South District Championship after a 2-0 victory over Jacksonville College on Saturday at St. Julien Park. 
 
The game was moved to Broussard after unplayable conditions following severe weather throughout the week.
 
LSUE was quick to start, taking the lead in the 16th minute off a linkup between Elie Bokota (Atlanta, GA, Clarkston HS) and Jade Baartman (Cape Town, South Africa, Groote Schuur HS).  Bokota danced through a handful of Jaguars defenders before smashing his third goal of the campaign.  The freshman is tied for the season lead in points with 13.  LSUE would take that one goal advantage into intermission.
 
After a stalemate throughout the second half, the contest would get heated in the final minutes as several red cards were accessed following unwarranted physical contact from the Jacksonville side.
 
The Bengals would get the exclamation point in the final seconds as LSUE eluded a hard press from the Jaguars, finding Jose Escobar (Fort Pierce, FL, Fort Pierce Central HS) alone to smash the 90th minute goal.  It was Escobar's team's best fifth goal of the season.
 
Vinicius Cadengue (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Instituto Federal de Brasilia) grabbed four saves in LSUE's sixth clean sheet of the season.
 
A rubber match now awaits on Tuesday with Tyler JC for the Gulf South District Championship and an automatic berth into the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.  Game time from Eunice will be announced soon.
