Bennett, Diaville Highlight Kilgore Sweep At Home

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used all three phases – offense, pitching and defense – to secure a doubleheader sweep of Kilgore College on Wednesday at Lady Bengal Field.  The Bengals (9-7) used another historic performance by Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) on their way to take both games.

The freshman pitcher followed up a no-hitter in her home debut with a perfect game in her second start on the Cajun Prairie.  Bennett struck out 10 batters as LSUE rolled past the Rangers, 14-0, in five innings.

It's the first perfect game for LSUE since Raven Cole tossed a 13-strikeout perfect game in a 20-0 win over Pearl River on February 4, 2015.

The Bengals took down Kilgore 5-3 in Game Two, led by a 3-RBI outing from Madison Diaville (Livingston, LA, Doyle HS).  The freshman outfielder tallied seven hits on the day, raising her team's best batting average to .491.

LSUE will head to Texas this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Blinn College and Alvin CC, starting with the Buccaneers on Friday.

Game 1 vs. Kilgore College – W, 14-0 (5 Innings)
Chloe Bennett has made it obvious that she enjoys the friendly confines of Lady Bengal Field.  The freshman again dominated at home in LSUE's 14-0 victory over Kilgore College.

The Rosepine product followed by a no-hitter in her home debut with a perfect game against the Rangers during the five-inning rout.  Bennett struck out 10 batters while inducing five flyouts to register the historic victory.

Bennett struck out the first six batters she faced, increasing her season total to 70 punchouts.  That mark is currently ranked third in the nation.

The LSUE offense capitalized on five Kilgore errors as only six of the team's 14 runs were earned.  The Bengals broke through with four runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a two-run double by Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS).

Madison Diaville enjoyed a 4-for-4 game, driving in three runs and scoring once.  Maddie Leal (Houston, TX, Spring HS), Cendall Barton (Elmer, LA, Alexandria Senior HS), Ashlyn Roach (Calhoun, LA, West Ouachita HS) and Prejean all had multiple RBIs in the game.  A five-run fourth inning capped off the scoring for LSUE kicked off by Leal's two RBI double.

Game 2 vs. Kilgore College – W, 5-3
A fourth inning power surge played a key role in LSUE's 5-3 win over Kilgore to grab the Wednesday doubleheader.  The Bengals blasted back-to-back solo home runs as the long balls gave LSUE enough insurance to get past the Rangers.

Madison Diaville continued her early season tear, driving in three runs off three hits.  The outfielder gave LSUE the early lead with a two-run single in the second inning.  Her solo home run was the first of two straight long balls as Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) joined the hit parade a batter later.

Madalynn Leal's sacrifice fly started off the pivotal frame with a sacrifice fly to score Lauren Adams.

Emma Shepherd (Athens, LA, Claiborne Academy) improved to 3-3 on the year after one of the freshman's better outings of the campaign.  The left-hander three five innings, giving up one earned run off two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Cendall Barton saw two innings of work in relief.
