EUNICE, La. - LSU Eunice had no answer for the red-hot McLennan offense as the Bengals suffered a doubleheader sweep on Friday at Lady Bengal Field. The Bengals (20-10) saw their eight-game win streak come to a close in the losses.
A fifth inning grand slam pushed the Highlassies past LSUE 10-2 in the opener, before the Bengals bowed out 18-4 in the finale.
LSUE will play McLennan in another doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:00PM.
Game 1 vs. McLennan CC – L, 2-10
LSU Eunice gave up a pair of big innings as the Bengals fell 10-2 to McLennan. One of the nation's top power hitting teams, McLennan blasted a pair of critical home runs in the win.
The Highlassies were first on the board in the second inning with a towering two-run home run. McLennan would add three more runs in the frame including a two-run single.
The Bengals would answer right back in the third as heads up base running by
Janey Cheramie (Lockport, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) allowed the sophomore to score on a throwing error to third after a successful stolen base attempt at second.
LSUE would inch even closer an inning later as
Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) uncorked a solo home run to left field to make it a 5-2 game.
McLennan responded in the fifth with a pair of bases loaded hits, one a RBI single and the other a towering grand slam to put the mercy rule into play.
Game 2 vs. McLennan CC – L, 4-18
The offense display continued in the second game, as LSU Eunice fell 18-4 to McLennan.
The Bengals gave up four runs in the opening inning, three coming off a pair of errors. Madison Prejean would again be up to the task, helping
Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) score on a sacrifice grounder to cut into the deficit, 4-1.
That's when the Highlassies struck for nine runs off five extra base hits, including a pair of home runs to push their lead to 13-1. LSUE would scratch across runs over the next two innings thanks to RBI singles from
Emily Hoover (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS),
Jessi Cary (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) and Prejean to get back within nine, 13-4.
McLennan would strike for five more runs in the fifth including another home run.
Madison Diaville (Livingston, LA, Doyle HS) was a bright spot in the loss, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Prejean and Cary also posted multi-hit games.
