LUFKIN, Tx. – LSU Eunice grabbed a Friday road split at Angelina College after pulling together late inning offense in the opener. The Bengals (23-13) return home on Sunday for a twin bill against Blinn College, starting a stretch of the final six home games of the season.
The Bengals won the opening game, 6-4, followed by a 6-2 decision in favor of Angelina.
Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) led the LSUE offense with a four hits, while
Emily Hoover (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) drove in a team-high 3 RBIs in the doubleheader.
Game 1 vs. Angelina College – W, 6-4
LSU Eunice showed some late game magic, plating all six of its runs in the final three innings to take a 6-4 win over Angelina to open the doubleheader.
The Bengals found themselves in a 2-0 hole through the early portions of the game as Angelina scratched runs in the first and third off a RBI single and solo home run. The two teams would trade a pair of runs each int eh fifth inning as
Madison Diaville (Livingston, LA, Doyle HS) and
Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) manufactured the first LSUE runs of the game.
Maci Baldwin would jump start the comeback, tying the game 4-4 with a two-run double. Diaville would give LSUE the lead, scoring
Taylor Palmer (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) off one of three Roadrunner errors.
Emily Hoover added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI double.
Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) threw ninth complete game of the season, picking up her 14th win of the campaign. The freshman would hake off the early runs to turn in another solid performance, scattering four earned runs off nine hits and a walk. She increased her yearly strikeout total to 140 with six punchouts.
Game 2 vs. Angelina College – L, 2-6
A pair of two-out hits would deal LSU Eunice a 6-2 setback to Angelina College to conclude the Friday doubleheader.
Angelina's big frame all came with two outs in the second. The Roadrunners Taylor Hartsell worked a long at bat with it paying off with a two-run single to left field. Angelina would follow that up with a three-run home run to go ahead 5-0.
LSUE would see its offense come back to life in the late innings. The Bengals would string together a pair of two-out base hits by
Mikayla Cashdollar (Glenmora, LA, University Academy) and Maci Baldwin before the threat was squashed with a strikeout.
Emily Hoover would finally get the Bengals on the board an inning later with an opposite field two-run home run to right center. It was her first long ball with LSU Eunice. Angelina would respond with another run of its own in the bottom half of the sixth.
Maci Baldwin would connect on three of LSUE's six hits to lead the Bengals offensively.
The duo of
Emma Shepherd (Athens, LA, Claiborne Academy) and
Cendall Barton (Elmer, LA, Alexandria Senior HS) would give up 10 hits and four walks in the loss.
