Power Bats Pave Way For Sweep At Baton Rouge CC

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice used a strong offensive performance to cruise past Baton Rouge CC in a Tuesday doubleheader sweep.  The 8th-ranked Bengals (30-16) combined for 10 extra base hits including four home runs in the victories.

LSUE used a five-run fourth inning to guide the Bengals to a 10-2 opening victory, followed by a 6-1 decision.  Maddie Leal (Houston, TX, Spring HS) led the offensive charge with a four-hit afternoon, while Brooke Taylor (New Orleans, LA, Thomas Jefferson HS) drove in three runs.

The Bengals will stay on the road this weekend for a pair of road dates in Texas.  LSUE heads to Tyler JC on Saturday, followed by a Sunday return trip to San Jacinto College.

Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 10-2
LSU Eunice exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to push past Baton Rouge CC, 10-2, in the doubleheader opener.  The Bengals struck for seven extra base hits including a pair of home runs.

Brooke Taylor started the scoring for LSU Eunice in the second inning with a two-run double to score Mikayla Cashdollar (Glenmora, LA, University Academy) and Abby Touchet (Shreveport, LA, C.E. Byrd HS).  The Bengals would push their lead to 4-0 an inning later as Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) lifted a two-run homer, her fourth of the season.

The Bengals would then get the big number an inning later as RBI doubles by Maddie Leal (Houston, TX, Spring HS) and Ashlyn Roach (Calhoun, LA, West Ouachita HS) were followed by a three-run home run by Cashdollar to push the LSUE advantage to 9-0.

Cashdollar enjoyed a breakout game, going 1-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

After BRCC stopped a possible run rule with a two-run homer in the fifth, Abby Touchet would score the final run of the game with a seventh inning double to plate Prejean.

Prejean was joined by Leal and Roach with multi-hit games.

That was more than enough for Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) to improve to 18-5 on the season, pitching her 12th complete game of the season.  After a single and two walks would load the bases in the first, Bennett would shut down the Bears by retiring the next 10 batters she faced.

The freshman struck out 13 batters while giving up two earned runs off four hits and three walks.

Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 6-1
An early offensive surge as enough for LSU Eunice as the Bengals took down Baton Rouge CC, 6-2, to close out the Tuesday doubleheader.  The win helped LSUE improved to 50-0 all-time against the Bears.

The offense picked up where it left off in Game One, striking for two in the opening frame.  Maddie Leal would double home Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS), who would later score on a sacrifice ground out from Madison Diaville (Livingston, LA, Doyle HS).

The Bears responded with a run of their own in the first before Lauren Adams (Friendswood, TX, Friendswood HS) punched right back with a solo home run to center field.  Brooke Taylor would add a two-run shot to left in the fourth to make it a 5-1 LSUE lead.

Jessi Cary (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Cendall Barton.

Leal and Taylor led the Bengals' offense by grabbing four of the team's five hits.

Emma Shepherd (Athens, LA, Claiborne Academy) would get the job done in the circle, giving up that one earned run in 6.1 innings of work.  Shepherd yielded four hits and two walks while striking out a pair.
