Offense Key In Sophomore Day Sweep of Bossier Parish

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice softball used a hard-hitting offensive attack to secure a sweep of Bossier Parish CC on Saturday at Lady Bengal Field.  The Bengals (26-14) honored their seven sophomores before the game.

While the sophomores received a proper send-off, it was freshman Madison Diaville (Livingston, LA, Doyle HS) that did the heavy lifting on the offensive end.  Her three-run home run started the scoring as LSUE took the first game in walk-off fashion, 8-7.  She would lift another three-run blast to help pull away from the Cavaliers in a 10-3 victory.

Diaville would finish with only two hits but would make them count, driving in seven runs in the two contests.

The Bengals close out the home portion of the 2022 season on Wednesday with a 1:00PM doubleheader against Dallas Christian.

Game 1 vs. Bossier Parish CC – W, 8-7
Abby Touchet (Shreveport, LA, C.E. Byrd HS) punched a one-out single up the middle to score Janey Cheramie (Lockport, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) and deliver LSUE an exciting 8-7 walk-off win over Bossier Parish to take the doubleheader opener.  It was the Bengals' second walk-off win of the season.

LSUE raced out to a 4-0 lead after two innings as freshmen Madison Diaville and Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) jumpstarted the Bengals attack.  Diaville unloaded with a three-run home run in the first, followed by a RBI double from Prejean in the second.

After BPCC would use a Bengal error to score two runs in the third, LSUE would return the favor in the bottom half of the inning turning a Brooke Taylor (New Orleans, LA, Thomas Jefferson HS) bunt into two more runs thanks to one of three Bossier Parish errors.

The Bengals weren't out of the woods just yet as BPCC would claw to within 6-5 off a fifth inning three-run home run.  Diaville answered in the sixth with a sacrifice grounder to score Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS).

The back and forth would continue as Bossier used a solo home run and RBI single to tie the game in the seventh before Touchet's heroics.  Ashlyn Roach (Calhoun, LA, West Ouachita HS) started the rally with a one-out single and a Bossier Parish error would put pinch runner Janey Cheramie sixty feet away.

Ashlyn Roach and Abby Touchet were the lone Bengals to produce multi-hit games as Maci Baldwin and Maddie Leal (Houston, TX, Spring HS) both scored twice.

Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) improved to 16-4 on the season with 2.2 innings of relief work.  Bennett gave up two earned runs off four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Cendall Barton (Elmer, LA, Alexandria Senior HS)n fared well in the circle in a 4.1 inning no decision.

Game 2 vs. Bossier Parish CC – W, 10-3
LSU Eunice broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run fourth inning to trigger a runaway 10-3 victory over Bossier Parish to secure the Saturday sweep.  The Bengals would explode for eight extra bases hits in the game.

BPCC would tie the contest, 3-3, with its only runs of the game in the fourth inning coming by way of home run and a RBI double.  That set the stage for another big blast from Madison Diaville on the day.

Maddie Leal would score what would be the go-ahead run on an infield single to plate Mari Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS). Madison Diaville would follow that with a screaming three-run home run to push the LSUE lead to 7-3.

Leal joined Abby Touchet with three-hit games to lead the 13-hit game for the Bengals.

The offense would continue in the fifth as Emily Hoover (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) doubled home Touchet.  The sixth inning saw Janey Chermie and Touchet drive in runs.

The duo of Emma Shepherd (Athens, LA, Claiborne Academy) and Cendall Barton shined after the hiccup in the fourth.  Shepherd (W, 6-6) gave up the three earned runs off five hits and a walk while striking out three.  Cendall Barton silenced the Cavaliers with three innings of shutout relief.

LSU Eunice would again jump out in front early as Maci Baldwin ignited the offense with an inside-the-park home run to begin the game.  Ashlyn Roach and Madison Prejean both doubled home runs to push the Bengals' lead to 3-0 after three innings.
