CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball rallied from an early deficit to rattle of 10 unanswered runs late as the Bengals took down National Park College 10-2 at Miller Stadium in Crowley on Friday. The game was moved to Crowley as the field conditions in Eunice were not playable due to rain throughout the week.
The Bengals (4-0) saw themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first inning as the Nighthawks cobbled together three two-out hits and two free passes.
Patrick Vienne (Natchitoches, LA, St. Mary's HS) would get out of the jam with a fielder's choice with the bases loaded.
The LSUE ace would settle down with another terrific performance, sitting down the next four innings in order. Vienne would finish with eight strikeouts while not allowing a walk.
The offense was silenced for just one hit through the first four innings before finally finding life in the fifth. After
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) connected on a double to put two runners in scoring position,
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS)would manufacture LSUE's first run with a sacrifice ground out to plate
Brad Griffin (Sydney, Australia, Endeavour Sports HS).
LSUE would then strike for four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Willis two-run single.
Zachary Thomas (Jesup, GA, Wayne County HS) extended the lead with a lead off solo home run to start the seventh, part of a two-run inning to make it 7-2 Bengals.
The Bengals would produce three more runs in the eighth using a
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) RBI single,
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) bases loaded walk and a
Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS) sacrifice fly.
LSUE would get multi-hit nights from Willis, Thomas and
Alex Stevens (Crowley, LA, Notre Dame HS) for six of the team's eight hits. Cooper led the team with three RBIs on the night.
After taking the lead in the sixth, that was all
Aiden Vosburg (Jarreau, LA, Catholic-Pointe Coupee HS) would need. The reliever continued his dominant start to the season, going three no-hit innings with six strikeouts and one walk.
Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) secured the win with a two strikeout ninth inning.
LSUE has moved its game times around for its series with National Park. The two teams will play a single game on Saturday at 6:00PM from Bengal Stadium, followed by a 12:00PM Sunday doubleheader on the Cajun Prairie.
