TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice Softball scored two runs with two outs in the final inning as the Bengals beat Tyler JC 7-6 on Monday. It was the Bengals' (24-9) second straight rally in the seventh inning.
LSUE was down to its final out trailing 6-5 after back-to-back fly outs to start the inning.
Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) started the rally with a single before
Abby Touchet (Shreveport, LA, C.E. Byrd HS) walked to put the go ahead run on base.
Katie Salling (Opelousas, LA, Parkview Baptist HS) and
Maddie Chretien (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) would deliver consecutive singles to score the two baserunners and give LSUE the 7-6 lead.
The Bengals weren't out of the woods just yet as Tyler JC would load the bases against
Emma Shepherd (Athens, LA, Claiborne Academy). The sophomore would induce a pop up to the catcher and give LSUE the dramatic victory. Shepherd picked up the win after tossing 2.2 innings of relief, giving up two hits and a walk while holding the Apaches scoreless.
LSUE would push out to a 4-1 lead through 3.5 innings. Madison Prejean was the main culprit in the Bengals' attack, singling home a run in the first and striking a solo home run in the third. LSUE plated two runs in the fourth off
Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) and
Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) RBI singles.
All six of Tyler JC's runs would come from a home run, hitting four total.
Prejean was joined by Chretien with a three-hit game, part of LSUE's nine-hit output.
