EUNICE, La – After a five-game road swing, LSU Eunice Women's Soccer enjoyed the comforts of home in a big way during the Bengals' 9-0 thrashing of East Mississippi CC on Sunday at the Bengals Soccer Complex. The Bengals (2-4-1) tied a single-game program record with their nine goals, meeting the mark set against Jacksonville College in LSUE's first season in 2018.
Madeleine Thompson (Baton Rouge, LA, Baton Rouge Magnet HS) jump started the Bengals with a goal inside the first minute of the game. In the beginning moments,
Rudo Marufu (Harare, Zimbabwe, Westridge HS) played a free kick inside the box that bounced right to Thompson for a point-blank finish.
Abigail Ortega (Puebla, Mexico, Westchester Academy (TX)) quickly made it 2-0 LSUE a few minutes later and she scooped up a goal kick and rifled a 35-yard shot that went over the East Mississippi goalkeeper's head.
LSU Eunice would produce another quick flurry of goals midway through the way as
Sadie Bourgeois (Saint Amant, LA, Saint Amant HS) and Rudo Marufu were back to get one past the goalkeeper.
Isha Gerlach (Utrecht, Netherlands, x11 NUOVO Scholen) added a 41st minute penalty kick to give the Bengals a 5-0 edge at intermission.
The Bengals kept their foot on the gas as
Olivia Stanford (Lafayette, LA, Comeaux HS) set off another run of LSUE goals.
Salome Deneubourg (Chalo-Saint-Mars, France, Jean Pierre Timbaud HS) found the fellow freshman on a cornerback as Stanford placed a header into the net in the 58th minute. Stanford would then assist in the next two goals as Bourgeois and Marufu each collected a brace.
Gisell Lupita Jimenez Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia, Colegio Santa Isabel de Hungria) capped off the scoring in the 75th minute with a beautiful run, weaving through a line of Lion defenders before curling in a shot just inside the 18-yard box.
Hannah May (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) had an easy afternoon in net as the freshman collected a clean sheet despite not facing a shot on goal the entire contest.
LSU Eunice is back in action at home on Friday as the Bengals welcome Western Texas College town for a 12:00PM kickoff.
