EUNICE, LA -
Jose Luis Bustamante (Bogota, Colombia, Colegio Andino) recorded a first half brace as he helped lead No. 4 LSU Eunice to a 2-1 decision over No. 15 Western Texas College on Friday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The Bengals (9-0) picked up their third win over a NJCAA ranked team this season, a new single-season program record.
Bustamante helped LSUE get on the scoring ledger early as the Colombian converted a 4th minute penalty kick. The forward missed the initial attempt, but a violation by the Westerners of crossing into the 18-yard box before the kick gave Bustamante and the Bengals another crack at it.
LSU Eunice would pad its lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute as Bustamante found the back of the net again. After a corner kick was deflected by
Peyton Foreman (Lafayette, LA, Southside HS), Bustamante was able to connect for his team's best fourth goal of the season. The redshirt freshman has recorded at least a point in each of LSUE's last four wins.
That was more than enough for
Zachary Clary (Pensacola, FL, Tate HS) and the Bengals' defense. LSUE was on the verge of its eighth shutout of the season before Western Texas made it interesting with an 84th minute goal. Clary and the Bengals would hold on for the final six minutes to secure the win.
Clary would record nine saves in the victory.
LSU Eunice heads out to Mobile, Alabama for a neutral site game on Tuesday, September 26 against Southern Union State Community College. The Bengals are back at home Monday, October 9 when they host Northwest Mississippi Community College.
