EUNICE, La. –Kole Myers became the latest former LSU Eunice standout to hear his name called in the MLB Draft as the outfielder was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday. Myers has spent the last two seasons at Troy University, where he was a second-team All-Sun Belt selection following his senior season.
The Jennings native is the 61st player from LSU Eunice to have either been drafted or signed by a Major League Baseball organization, all under the guidance of head coach Jeff Willis.
"Kole is a tremendous athlete who has worked incredibly hard, and we could not be prouder of his achievements after his time at LSU Eunice," LSU Eunice head coach Jeff Willis said. "We're looking forward to watching him continue to chase his dreams with the Los Angeles Dodgers."
On the Cajun Prairie, Myers started in 81 of 118 games played over three seasons which included the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign. He was part of the 2021 NJCAA National Championship team, starting the final two games of LSUE's title run while batting .312 with 21 RBIs, 37 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 45 games played.
In his sophomore season of 2022, the outfielder tied for the national lead in stolen bases with 58, the third most in a single season at LSUE. He is still in the top ten in career walks (68) and stolen bases (76) for the Bengals.
Myers started a total of 120 games for Troy over the last two seasons, ranking third nationally with 62 walks and a Sun Belt Conference leading 32 stolen bases. He leaves Troy tenth in team history with 55 stolen bases.
It's the fourth straight draft that a former LSU Eunice Bengal has heard their name joining Simon Miller (Reds, 2023), Javier Vaz (Royals, 2022), and River Town (Royals, 2021). The quartet were all teammates on the 2020 team.
Myers is the first Bengal turned Dodger since Hunter Feduccia in 2018, who is currently playing Triple-A with the Los Angeles organization.
