EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used a goal and an assist from
Dillon Trimble (Sugar Land, TX, Stephen F. Austin HS) to score a 2-0 victory over Texas Southmost on Friday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The Bengals (3-0) opened up the first of 11 games against Region 14, playing as a cooperative member in their conference.
It was a back-and-forth start for the Bengals and Scorpions when LSUE had a penalty kick opportunity at the midpoint of the first half. After a penalty box violation scratched a converted penalty by
Bartek Luczak (Poznan, Poland), the Scorpion keeper pushed aside the second attempt to keep the game scoreless.
LSUE would finally get in the scoring ledger in the waning moments of the half as Luczak bullied his way past three defenders down the endline before finding a wide-open Trimble for a point-blank shot, giving the Bengals a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Trimble would help create a valuable insurance goal in the 55th minute, delivering a sharp through ball to a sprinting
Nathan Martinez (Houston, TX, Klein Cain HS) who would evade the goalkeeper before sending a close-range missile to the back of the net.
Landon Sorrell (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) picked up another clean sheet while his defense kept the Scorpions at bay. Sorrell only needed one save to preserve the shutout.
LSUE continues its home opening weekend on Saturday with a 2:00PM contest against Coastal Bend College.
