EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer used a timely goal and stout defense to secure a 1-0 decision over Coastal Bend College on Saturday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The 12th-ranked Bengals' (4-0) win over the number 19 Cougars gives LSUE at least one ranked win in each season of their seven-year history.
A defensive battle throughout, it was an opportunist LSUE offense that would score the only goal of the afternoon. In the 30th minute,
Chris Williams (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) forced a turnover near midfield of the Cougars' half and the ball would find
Julian Pasqualino (Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Father John Redmond HS), who streaked down the left side and rifle a shot on goal. The rebound would come right to a charging
Bartek Luczak (Poznan, Poland), who would stuff home the trash with the goalkeeper out of net.
LSUE would put up four shots on goal, most notably an
Avaneesh Kamath (Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Reliance Foundation School) header off a cross that bounced just off the goalpost.
A physical game for the duration, the two sides would combine for 31 fouls.
Landon Sorrell (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) helped produce LSUE's third straight clean sheet, snagging two crucial saves.
LSU Eunice hits the road on Friday, September 6 for another ranked matchup as the Bengals invade Angelina College.
