LSU Eunice completed its opening weekend with an 11-1 mercy-rule win over North Lake College Sunday at Bengal Stadium.
The Bengals (3-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out solo home run by
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe).
North Lake College (0-3) tied the game in the top of the third when Keion Seastruck doubled and scored on a double by Bowie Farris, who later tagged out trying to steal home.
LSUE retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when
Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame) singled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single by
Braden Comeaux (Barbe).
Comeaux stole third and then scored on a North Lake College error to push the Bengals ahead, 3-1.
LSUE exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away, leading 8-1.
Feduccia walked and scored on a double from a
Koi Westbrook (Carencro) double.
Bo Myers (Zachary) hit a sacrifice fly to plate Westbrook before Bourgeois homered to push the Bengals' lead to 6-1.
The rally continued when Anthony Forte walked and scored on a double by
Michael Claverie (Live Oak). Comeaux was hit by pitch and scored before Claverie was tagged out at third to end the inining.
LSUE sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, begun when Comeaux
singled and scored on a double by
Micah McHugh (Zachary).
Feduccia singled to drive in McHugh, while Myers' single drove in the Bengal catcher for the 11-1 advantage.
Michael Brawner (St. Joseph HS) (1-0) earned the win as he struck out eight and allowed one run on three hits over four innings of work.
Josh Taylor (Teurlings Catholic) (2 K, 1 H, 2 innings) and
Brent Hebert (Cypress Ranch)(3K, 1 inning) also pitched for the Bengals.
Bourgeois went 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored, while Feduccia went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Comeaux (2-for-3, 1 RBI 3 runs scored), Myers (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Claverie (2-for-4, RBI) all had multiple hits for the Bengals.
LSUE opens a four-game series against Southwest Tennessee Community College 6 p.m. Thursday at Bengal Stadium.
