Box Score TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice split a doubleheader Saturday with Tyler Junior College as the No. 3 Bengals grabbed a 6-1 win before the top-ranked team in NJCAA Div. III responded with a 6-0 win in the finale. The three game series concludes at 1 p.m. today.
Game One: LSUE 6, Tyler 1
LSUE pitcher
Ridge Heisler (Mangham) threw a complete-game win as he struck out seven, walked one and allowed one earned run on seven hits over nine innings.
The Bengals jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, begun when
Braden Comeaux (Barbe) walked and scored on a hit by
Hunter Feduccia (Barbe).
Michael Claverie (Live Oak) singled and scored on an Apache error to push the Bengals ahead, 2-0.
Tyler closed the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the second as Blaze Beason doubled, stole third and scored on a hit by Jarel McDade.
The game remained close until the Bengals pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth to move ahead, 4-1.
Koi Westbrook (Carencro) singled and later scored on a hit by
Johnny Johnson (Runnels), while
Micah McHugh (Zachary) singled and crossed home plate when Comeaux was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
LSUE added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning, begun when Johnson doubled and scored on an error. Bourgeois singled and scored on a hit by Claverie for a 6-1 lead.
The Bengals belted 15 hits against four Apache pitchers, led by Johnson (3-for-5, RBI), and Feduccia (3-for-4, RBI) along with Bourgeois (2-for-6) and Claverie (2-for-5, RBI).
Game Two: Tyler Junior College 6, LSUE 0
Tyler (25-10) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal a 6-0 win over the Bengals (32-7).
The Apaches scored a run in the bottom of the first when Braden Wise singled and scored on a sacrifice by Jordan Trahan.
Tyler added a run in the second when Whitehouse doubled and scored on a sacrifice by Matt Miskusek.
Trailing 2-0, the Bengals threatened in the top of the third when Claverie walked and
Brent Hebert (Cypress Ranch) singled but neither could score.
In the fourth,
Austin Kirkpatrick (Teurlings Catholic) walked and Bourgeois singled but again the Bengals were kept off the scoreboard.
After Westbrook doubled in the fifth, the Bengals had another chance to score in the sixth when Bourgeois singled after a double play, stole second but was left stranded.
Zach Hester (Vidor) (8-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he struck out five, walked two and allowed four earned runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings.
The Bengals had nine hits, led by Hebert (2-for-4) and Bourgeois (3-for-4).
