Bengals Fall In Opening Tune-Up At LSUA

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Two long distance goals by LSU Alexandria were enough to sink LSU Eunice in its first game in program history, 2-0.  The exhibition is the first of three tune-ups for LSUE under first year head coach Ian McGimsey.

"For being in our first year as a program, I thought it was great for our ladies to experience playing an older, four-year school like LSUA," McGimsey said.  "The ideas were there and once our feet catch up to our mind, I believe we'll be a formidable side."

LSUE controlled the pace in the early stages of the game, building on the combination of Julianna Rocha and Sofia Beltran Carrasco but failing to convert on a set piece.  The Generals broke through for the first goal of the game off the counter attack as Lacey Polderman connected on a long volley over the outstretched hands of Bengals goalie Jolie Cary in the 26th minute.

The game was shortened to two 30-minute halves thanks to a soaked pitch after rain hammered central Louisiana earlier in the day.

The Generals netted another quick strike goal in the 40th minute when Megan Bryson caught the LSUE defense in transition with a long strike to give LSUA a 2-0 edge.

LSUE had two golden opportunities in the game, both striking the crossbar.  In the first half, Celeste Nunez powered a left-footed rocket outside of the box before missing, and Kelsi Humbird's second half offering hit iron on a breakaway strike down the right sideline.

The Bengals will turn around and host an exhibition next Saturday, taking on the Cajun Soccer Club's U18 squad.  Game time from Moore Park in Lafayette is set for 5:00PM.
