Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – LSU Eunice raced out to an early two goal lead and held on to score a 2-2 draw with Delta State to open the Inaugural Regular Season for the Bengal soccer program. It was the first official game of the year after three preseason tilts to begin the campaign.
"We've been able to see improvement each time out on the pitch," LSU Eunice head coach Ian McGimsey said. "The ladies are starting to understand their role in our system and the results are starting to show."
After controlling the flow for the majority of the first half, the Bengals were finally able to go ahead after
Judith Avila (Lindale, TX, Lindale HS) netted a 31st minute goal. Avila raced past her defender and worked down the baseline, scoring on a narrow angle. It was the freshman's first tally of the year.
A few minutes later,
Madison Munoz (Palestine, TX, Palestine HS) doubled LSUE's advantage. Avila placed a ball in stride to Munoz who rocketed her first goal of her Bengal career to give LSU Eunice a 2-0 lead.
Delta State would rally with a 42nd minute and 65th minute goals.
Kelsi Humbird (Houston, TX, Angleton HS) led the offensive minded first half with three shots on goal, half of LSUE's tally on the game.
Jolie Cary (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) and
Luisa Rodenas Benavente (Barcelona, Spain) shared time in net with Rodenas able to snatch three saves.
LSU Eunice will return home next Saturday, September 1 for a game against Andrew College. Fans can find more LSUE news and information on social media via Twitter (@LSUEBengalsWSOC), Facebook and Instagram (@LSUEBengals) or by logging onto www.lsuebengals.net.
