Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – LSU Eunice stormed out to a six-goal first half lead and never looked back in 9-0 shutout of Jacksonville College. The win marked the first for LSUE (1-0-1) under head coach Ian McGimsey.
"It was really good to see the girls step up to the plate and show some of their potential," LSU Eunice head coach Ian McGimsey said. "The early lead allowed us to give our whole team some valuable playing time that will help us down the road."
Abbie Watson (Gateshead, England) started the scoring by drilling a penalty kick into the upper right hand corner. The 5th minute goal was caused by a foul after
Jeanette Fischer (Graested, Denmark) charged hard near goal and was tripped.
Midway through the first half, the Bengals had a flurry of goals in a four-minute span.
Leslie Bennett (Kilgore, TX, Kilgore HS) diced her way through the left side of the Jaguar defense, ending with a 23rd minute tapper; Jeanette Fischer delivered a beautiful cross to the backside for a waiting
Judith Avila (Lindale, TX, Lindale HS) header to make it a 3-0 tally and Avila would add a second goal on a breakaway a minute later in the 27th.
Katelyn Knowles (Lufkin, TX, Lufkin HS) (40th) and
Sofia Beltran Carrasco (Talahuano, Chile) (44th) added two late first half goals to give LSUE a 6-0 lead at the break.
The second half started with
Juliana Rocha (Bogotá, Colombia, Colegio Bilingue Pio XII) scoring on a 46th minute breakaway followed by goals by
Alexis DeVillier (Opelousas, LA, Westminster Christian HS) and
Yasmine Gonzales (Lufkin, TX, Lufkin HS). Both were assisted by Rocha.
The game was dampened by severe thunderstorms in the second half with play continuing through the 79th minute where the game was called.
LSUE will be back in action Tuesday as it heads to Mississippi College and will return home Thursday for a 6:00PM tilt against North Lake College.
