Box Score DECATUR, Ms. – LSU Eunice capped off a season-long four match road trip with a decision 4-1 win over East Central CC on Tuesday. The win was also the Bengals' (5-0-1) fifth straight and secured a berth in next month's Women's Region 23 Tournament.
Celeste Nunez (Longview, TX, Longview HS) netted the first LSUE goal of the afternoon in the 28th minute with a long volley after a
Katelyn Knowles (Lufkin, TX, Lufkin HS) assist. Knowles would help the Bengals double up their lead just before half when
Juliana Rocha (Bogotá, Colombia, Colegio Bilingue Pio XII) drove down the end line and linked up with the freshman forward to bury the 42nd minute goal. It was Knowles' team-leading fourth goal of the season.
East Central would score its lone tally of the game after half when Macey Spencer drove a long shot over the head of
Jolie Cary (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS). The Bengals' goalkeeper would go on to record five saves on the afternoon.
The Bengals' depth would prove to be too much as LSUE would turn up the heat late in the game. Knowles would again spark the LSU Eunice attack with her second assist of the day, feeding
Sherice Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica, Wolmer's HS) in the 77th minute for a point blank range score.
A few minutes later, Clarke would be on the distributing end with a cross to
Kelsi Humbird (Houston, TX, Angleton HS) for the final goal of the afternoon.
LSUE will return home for the first time in nearly a month when the Bengals welcome Southwest Mississippi CC to south Louisiana. The doubleheader with the men's teams is slated for a 3:00PM start time.
