Box Score BROUSSARD, La. – A first-half barrage was all LSU Eunice needed to secure a 4-0 Friday night shutout of Southwest Mississippi. The game was played at St. Julien Park in Broussard after rain dampened the Bengals' home field.
The win was LSUE's sixth straight victory of the season to improve its record to 6-0-1.
After missing an opportunity on the game's first possession,
Juliana Rocha (Bogotá, Colombia, Colegio Bilingue Pio XII) rebounded to notch the first goal just four minutes into the evening. The sophomore made a start at forward and capitalized, banging home a near post goal from point blank range after taking a low cross by
Kelsi Humbird (Houston, TX, Angleton HS).
Riley Miller (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) and
Katelyn Knowles (Lufkin, TX, Lufkin HS) would push the Bengals' advantage to 3-0 with goals five minutes apart. Miller's 19th minute left footed laser from the top of the box was followed by a breakaway by Knowles in the 24th. Humbird and
Yasmine Gonzales (Lufkin, TX, Lufkin HS)were credited with the assists, respectively.
LSUE's final tally would come in the final minute of the first half off a firecracker from
Sherice Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica, Wolmer's HS). The freshman buried an upper far post volley lofted from 25 yards out.
Luisa Rodenas Benavente (Barcelona, Spain) was credited with the clean sheet after not facing much duress for the entire match. The freshman tallied two saves on the night.
The Bengals take a mid-week road trip to Dallas to face Redlands CC in a neutral site game. LSUE returns home next Saturday to face national number two ranked Navarro at 1:00PM.
