Box Score EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used another stellar offensive showing in a 4-0 win over Mountain View College on Sunday at the Bengals Soccer Complex. The 17th-ranked Bengals (10-1) scored four or more goals for the sixth time this season.
"We preached to the guys all week about overcoming a possible letdown after an emotional win at Tyler and I think they answered the call," LSUE men's soccer coach Josh McReynolds said. "We put together a very solid second half on both sides of the field which I was very excited to see."
Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) helped put LSUE in the drivers' seat early with a 3rd minute goal thanks to
Igor Castillo-Veliz (Baton Rouge, LA, Woodlawn HS) swiping a bad clearance and feeding Wagner on the left side of the box. The Bengals would take that 1-0 edge into halftime after weathering a physical first half, accumulating two of three yellow cards.
Wagner again would spark the Bengals to begin the half with a 47th minute goal off an
Angelo Fabricio (Jundiai, Brazil, St. Amant HS (LA)) assist. It was the sophomore's 21st goal of the season, currently ranking second in NJCAA Division I.
Albert Ibrahimi (Shipley, England, Shipley College) helped push the LSUE lead to 3-0, using a strong run down the alley to produce an own goal after Mountain View's clearance attempt of a shot ended up in net. Igor Castillo-Veliz would get on the score sheet in the 84th minute with an interception in scoring position and finishing atop of the 18-yard box.
Christian Carrillo (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) and
Zaykeese Smith (Charlestown, St. Kitts & Nevis, Charlestown Secondary School) split time in net for the Bengals, each scooping up a pair of saves to preserve the team's sixth shutout of the season.
LSUE heads to Pearl River on Wednesday for a pivotal showdown against a Wildcat club currently with the best conference mark in MACJC. The doubleheader will close out with men's action at 7:30PM from Poplarville.
