Box Score EUNICE, La. – After a delay lasting more than two hours due to lightning in the Eunice area, Mother Nature would get the best of both LSU Eunice and Pearl River, as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in a rain-shortened overtime on Wednesday at Bengals Soccer Complex. It was the Bengals' (2-0-1) first overtime game of the season.
Pearl River was first to score just before half in the 37th minute. The Wildcats swung in a corner kick with a sea of bodies vying for the ball before Tylee McCann snuck her foot on the ball to push it in net and take the lead into intermission.
LSUE had several scoring opportunities in the first half, most notably a beautiful cross from
Samaris Alvarado (Houston, TX, Klein Forest HS) who just missed a diving
Brianna Roberts (Conroe, TX, Oak Ridge HS) on the far side goal line.
Chloe Dean (Doncaster, England) provided the equalizer in the second half with her second long volley goal in as many games. Dean corralled a loose ball and sent a 35-yard shot into the back corner past the Wildcat goalkeeper to tie the game, 1-1, in the 74th minute.
The Bengals would have a few more scoring opportunities before regulation but could not put in the go-ahead goal.
