EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer used its formula of stingy defense and the opportunistic goal to more success on Thursday as the Bengals open up the postseason with a 2-0 victory over Northeast Texas CC at the Bengal Soccer Complex.  LSUE (6-3-1) advances to play at Navarro in the Region 14 Semifinals on Sunday.
 
"This is what we have been building towards since August," LSU Eunice Women's Soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said.  "Our team showed a lot of heart on the pitch tonight and I know they were happy to record another clean sheet."
 
The Bengals were able to produce its first goal of the game in the 17th minute thanks to a heady play from Sophie Attfield (Oxford, England, Icknield School).  The freshman midfielder intercepted an errant pass near midfield and struck a long-distance shot from 30 yards away, ricocheting off the crossbar to record her first goal in a Bengal kit.
 
It would be just one of three shots on goal for the Bengals in the first half while holding Northeast Texas to a long distance shot that was on frame.

LSUE was able to get its insurance goal halfway through the second half.  Isabelle Smith (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) was fouled inside the box while receiving a cross, drawing a penalty kick.  Sanaa Williams (London, England, Barking Abbey School) would calmly curve the ball into the right-hand corner for the 64th minute goal.
 
Leigh Brophy (Cape Town, South Africa, Groote Schuur HS) would go the distance in net, tallying just three saves as the backline would record the team's fifth clean sheet.  It was also the third straight shutout by the Bengals.
 
LSU Eunice will continue postseason play on Sunday with a road trip to Navarro College.  The Bengals and Bulldogs will kick off from Corsicana, Texas at 4:00PM.  The winner advances to the Region 14 Championship game.
