PENSACOLA, Fla. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer continued to weather its rugged schedule with a 1-1 draw over No. 4 Eastern Florida State College on Saturday at Ashton Brosnaham Park. LSUE (1-2-1) have played three top ten ranked squads in the first month of the season, the only team in the nation to take on that challenge.
The Bengals fell behind early, as the Titans went ahead in the seventh minute of the game. LSUE would tighten up defensively, as
Leigh Brophy (Cape Town, South Africa, Groote Schuur HS) grabbed eight saves in her first start of the season.
Jacie Crochet (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) would equalize in the 52nd minute as the Bengals defense produced a turnover into a goal. After an EFSC goal kick,
Marta San Teodoro-Gonzalez (Asturias, Spain, Colegio Paula Frassinetti) forced a deflected pass towards the 18-yard box, right to Crochet. The sophomore buried it to the right -side corner for her first goal of the season.
The two sides could not get another goal in net, forcing LSUE's third overtime game of the season.
LSUE would put up 12 shots on the day, seven coming on frame. Crochet was joined by
Lucia Lorenzo-Parga (Galicia, Spain, IES Rafael Dieste) and
Giovanna Do Amaral (Ascoli Piceno, Italy, Monteverde Academy (FL)) with a pair of on target shots.
The Bengals return to action on September 25 for a weekend Texas road trip beginning at Northeast Texas CC.
