EUNICE, La. – A second half red card would eventually catch up with LSU Eunice Women's Soccer as the Bengals fell 1-0 to Hill College in double overtime on Monday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. It was the third straight game decided by one goal for the Bengals (1-2).
"I'm really proud of the ladies' heart and effort despite the deck stacked against late in the game," LSU Eunice Women's Soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said. "Once we start connecting in the final third we have the chance to have a really special team."
The Rebels were able to grab the win in the second overtime, capitalizing on a faulty clearance and scoring in the 104th minute.
LSU Eunice controlled for the majority of the game, including the final 30-plus minutes it played a man down. The Bengals were assessed the red card after
Sophie Attfield (Oxford, England, Icknield School) was sent off on accumulation with a little less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
Despite the disadvantage, LSU Eunice managed to have several opportunities to win in regulation. Two notable chances were set pieces from
Giovanna Do Amaral (Ascoli Piceno, Italy, Monteverde Academy (FL)) that were shoved away by the goalkeeper just near the crossbar.
LSU Eunice hits the road to face Eastern Florida State this weekend.
