EUNICE, La. – The No. 18 LSU Eunice Women's Soccer team used a dominant first half to cruise past Ranger College 4-0 on Tuesday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The Bengals (6-3-1) have shut out opponents in five of their last six matches.
LSUE would get on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute as the Bengals used their speed along the right side.
Sadie Bourgeois (Saint Amant, LA, Saint Amant HS) streaked past her defender, sending a bouncing cross in the box.
Giovanna Do Amaral Camargo (Ascoli Piceno, Italy, Monteverde Academy (FL)) would flick it up and past the goalkeeper for the captain's first goal in a Bengal uniform.
One of the two other LSUE captains would get in the mix just a few minutes later as
Citlaly Santibanez (Dallas, TX, Wylie HS) would walk the ball in for a goal after a beautiful cross into the box by
Lucia Lorenzo-Parga (Galicia, Spain, IES Rafael Dieste). Santibanez would use a quick step to dodge a diving goalkeeper to stride into the open net.
The team would head into intermission with a celebration as
Renee Junna (Canberra ACT, Australia, Gungahlin College) put the Bengals up 3-0 in the final minute on a free kick. The Australian lofted a shot over the keeper, tucking it into the back corner with just six seconds left before halftime. An efficient LSUE attack would cash in on all three of its shots on frame.
LSUE would have several positive opportunities in the second half but would only convert on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. A Bengal player was thrown down during a free kick opportunity as Brock Ogami opted for his goalkeeper to get a seldom seen penalty kick chance.
Leigh Brophy (Cape Town, South Africa, Groote Schuur HS) would bury the chance into the upper 90, sending her teammates into a frenzy.
In addition to her goal, Brophy was solid in net as she secured the complete game shutout. The South African grabbed three saves in each half.
LSU Eunice continues its regular season ending four-game homestand on Saturday with a 10:00AM contest against Western Texas College. The game will be available on the LSUE Digital Network presented by Opelousas General Health.
