EUNICE, La. – A pair of acrobatic goals by
Citlaly Santibanez (Dallas, TX, Wylie HS) was all LSU Eunice Women's Soccer needed to secure a 2-1 victory over Western Texas College on Saturday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. LSU Eunice (7-3-1) continued its dominance at home, winning its fourth straight contest on the Cajun Prairie.
The Westerners would send a small shock to the Bengals early as Western Texas drew first blood with a goal in the third minute. The Bengals defense would tighten up after the early miscue, allowing just three more shots on goal, all saved by
Avery Wright (Temple, TX, Salado HS).
The Bengals would be quick for an answer, equalizing just five minutes later. The LSUE front line would all get in on the action as
Lucia Lorenzo-Parga (Galicia, Spain, IES Rafael Dieste) led the attack down the left sideline. A cross field pass to
Sadie Bourgeois (Saint Amant, LA, Saint Amant HS) was one touched into the box, where Santibanez was waiting for a header that beat the WTC goalkeeper.
LSUE would take the 1-1 tie in half despite several offensive buildups, firing off ten shots in the contest.
The game would not be decided until the final ten minutes, when the Bengals finally scored the game winner.
Giovanna Do Amaral Camargo (Ascoli Piceno, Italy, Monteverde Academy (FL)) would win a ball at midfield, eventually landing to
Brooklyn Lough (Boise, ID, Centennial HS). The freshman would loft a high, bouncing entry pass into the offensive third. Santibanez would race past the Westerner defender, volleying a high arcing shot over the charging goalkeeper and into the net.
The brace caps off a hot streak for Santibanez, scoring at least a goal in the last four matches. The sophomore captain now has five goals on the campaign after her first career two-goal match.
LSU Eunice continues its four-game homestand with a contest Sunday, October 16 against Richland College.
